- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- -* Setup: *-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Don't forget you can type BBSLIST /? to see a list of command line
- switches!
-
- 1: To install Digital BBSList, you can either unzip the contents of the
- DBLSTxxx.ZIP into your main BBS Directory, or you can have it in it's own
- directory. Make sure a copy of DSZ (DSZ.EXE or DSZ.COM) is in your path.
- Also the BBSLIST.MNU and BBSLIST.ANS must reside in the same dir as the
- BBSLIST.EXE.
-
- 2: It will be necessary to shrink your BBS if possible, require ANSi, and
- enable DOS Intercepts.
-
- 3: Installation is complete! Try adding an entry to the list first to
- be sure everything is peachy, then let you users have a blast!
-
- 4: Read the below part about how to 'customize' your copy!
-
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- -* Customizing: *-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- If you would like to customize your version a little bit, you can edit
- the BBSLIST.MNU (it's only an ansi file), and change it to whatever you
- wish, and this file is displayed as the main menu in Digital BBSList!
- The actual output of the BBSList is also customizable through an external
- ANSI file as well, edit the file BBSLIST.ANS to whatever you would like
- your BBSList to look like. Please refer to the PIPE codes section later on
- in the docs for more info. Starting with v1.3 you can have random BBSLIST
- ANSIs. To do so, you will need to create a BBSLIST.ANS file, and any other
- BBSLIST Screens you create should be named BBSLIST.1 BBSLIST.2 BBSLIST.3
- etc. without a break in the extension pattern.
-
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- -* PIPE Codes: *-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- You can modify the look of the BBSList using an external ANSI file called
- BBSLIST.ANS. This file must exist in order for the BBSList program to run.
- You can edit the ANSI file in any ANSI editor you choose, such as The Draw.
- The use of PIPE codes will offer you the chance to place each listing's info
- (ie, the BBS Name, Number, Speed, etc) anywhere on the screen you wish, as
- well as in any ANSI/DOS color you want. To use the PIPE codes, you'll have
- to have one of the following combos in your ANSI file. The combos consist
- of the CTRL-B character, which is also ALT-002, (This should appear in your
- ANSI editor as a shaded smiley face) as well as a alpha code immediately
- after the CTRL-B. The following is a list of defined alpha codes that will
- work in the BBSList:
-
- B - BBS Name
- N - BBS Number
- S - BBS Speed
- O - BBS SysOp(s)
- A - BBS Software
- C - Networks
- X - Note Line 1
- Y - Note Line 2
- D - Digital BBSList version: "Digital BBSList v1.3" (without the quotes)
-
- example:
- B : N
-
- would print out the BBS Name followed by a colon then the BBS Number,
- such as:
-
- Digital Illusions : 410-284-0970
-
- Remember, each one of these must be preceded by a CTRL-B (). Please look
- at the included BBSLIST.ANS for an example. A tip would be to draw the
- ANSI screen out, then in animation mode go back and add the CTRL-B(code)
- wherever you want it to be on the screen, in whatever color you choose.
- It is recommended that you keep your ANSI screen at or about 22 lines
- in length, since the Registration prompt will still be outputed on a line,
- as well as the [ Q:uit, #:Goto Number, ] etc, prompt will be outputed
- on the very next line. (Those prompts taking up a total of two lines on
- the bottom of your screen. For any more help you may need with this
- option, please contact the author at one of the below addresses.
-
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- -* Running the Software: *-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The following command lines options are available:
-
-
- BBSLIST [filename] [port] [/noline] [/?]
-
- [filename] = path and/or filename of CHAIN.* file.
- examples:
- BBSLIST CHAIN.TXT
- BBSLIST C:\WWIV\CHAIN.002
- [port] = COM Port Number.
- examples:
- BBSLIST 1
- BBSLIST CHAIN.TXT 2
- (For COM Ports 1 and 2, respectively.)
- [/noline] = No Line Switch; If enabled than the bottom
- status line will not be used.
- [/?] = Shows this help screen.
-
-
- ** Attention SysOps, if your software supports CHAIN.TXT, then read up:
-
- You can optionally run Digital BBSList with a command line argument
- passing the path and filename to your CHAIN.TXT drop file. Doing so
- will enable the user's name in status line. The following examples
- demonstrate:
-
- BBSLIST C:\WWIV\CHAIN.TXT
- or
- BBSLIST CHAIN.TXT
- or
- BBSLIST CHAIN.002
- or
- BBSLIST %1 (for those who run Digital BBSList as a chain in WWIV).
-
- ** Please remember, that is totally optional!
-
- If you wish to disable the bottom status line use the /NOLINE switch
- from the command line! Type BBSLIST /? for a list of switches.
-
- All command line options are totally optional.. you can also use multiple
- options on one command line:
-
- BBSLIST C:\WWIV\CHAIN.TXT 1 /NOLINE
- would run the BBSList, read chain.txt, use port 1, no status line
-
- BBSLIST CHAIN.002 3
- would run the BBSList, read chain.002, use port 3, use status line
-
- BBSLIST /NOLINE
- would run the BBSList with no status line, and no com port (cannot
- download the list)
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- -* DBEdit: *-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- DBEdit is an external Editor for Digital BBSList for SysOps who want to
- "weed" out "dead" systems. If several systems that you know of have either
- went down or changed their number, modem speed, etc, you can easily run the
- external editor program to update the BBSList Data file!
-
- ** Please note, this is NOT an online chain, it should be run locally only
- running DBEDIT.EXE remotely WILL lock your system!
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- -* DBAdd: *-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- DBAdd is a great SysOp utility to add BBSList entries straight from one
- command line! I highly recommend this util be used for ASV accounts to add
- entries to your BBSList automatically from EVERY Visiting SysOp who calls
- your BBS! The Syntax is as follows:
-
- DBADD /NAME BBS Name /NUMBER ###-###-#### /SYSOP Alias /SPEED 28800 /SOFTWARE Type
-
- type DBADD /? for help!
-
- ** at this time, networks and the misc note lines are not available using the
- DBAdd program.
-
- (Thanks to Carolina Cowboy for the suggestion!)
